Ben recently spoke with the University of Maryland’s student newspaper The Diamondback about the new album and his upcoming show at the Black Cat. You can read the article here.

Ben also spoke with local DC music site District of Sound to discuss the making of the record, his musical background and what to expect at a SEAS show. You can read the Q&A session here.

All this DC-area press is, of course, related to the upcoming SEAS show on Thursday, March 4th at the Black Cat with Blood Feathers and the Tough Shits. Don’t miss this great lineup!

If you can’t make the show, you can still pick up a record at the online store.

You can order it online from us by clicking on the “Store” button above, or by clicking right here.

The record is also available in several stores on the east coast. See the list below:

RICHMOND:

Plan 9 / Deep Groove / Rumors / Quirk

DC:

Som / Crooked Beat / Smash

BALTIMORE:

Sound Garden

PHILADELPHIA:

AKA Records

All stores have limited quantities, so if they are out of records, please contact us at info [at] decorationdayrecordings.com so we can supply them with more!

But what if I don’t have a record player?

All Decoration Day releases come with a free digital download of the entire album. These are high-quality DRM-free 320kbps mp3s. If you bought the album on iTunes, it’d cost you 99 cents a song. So for just a few bucks more, why not get those songs and the beautiful album artwork? Consider it a down payment on enjoyment once you do pony up the money for a record player. We know the easiest way to listen and enjoy music on-the-go is with your iPod, so we want to help make it easier for those who are a little wary of buying vinyl. So, what are you waiting for?

We’re very excited to finally announce the release date of the debut album from SEAS. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re very excited to finally share this album with you all. On 1/19, a store link will go live on the site and you’ll be able to order the album right here on our website. The album will also be available at several retailers in the mid-Atlantic, most notably in Richmond, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. We’ll have a list of stores up here on our site for those of you who like to do your record shopping in person.

The records are pressed on 180 gram vinyl and will be available in both black and clear. And, of course, each album comes with a coupon for a full mp3 digital download of the album.

We’re working to get a proper record release show set up for February, so we can celebrate properly. It’s a busy week ahead! Stay tuned!

Sorry for not checking in for a while.

SEAS has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the record. The good news is that we just got the masters back and they sound great. We’re now about to finish the artwork and begin the pressing process.

The bad news is that things took a little longer to finish up than we’d anticipated, so the record won’t actually be available for purchase until January.

It’s a slight setback, but we’re not really worried about it. We want everything to be perfect and we think it’s worth the small wait.

For those in Virginia, SEAS will be playing a free show on Monday, October 19th at Stronghill in Richmond. Rumor has it that they’ll be playing the entire new album, so be sure to check it out! Details are in the tourdates section.

It’s been several months in the making, but we are happy to finally be able to announce our first signing, Washington D.C. band SEAS. Decoration Day Recordings will be releasing the debut album, Now My Home Is A Beech Tree, in the fall.

SEAS is music performed and recorded by core member Ben Green. The project began in 2006 as a collection of quiet, simple guitar-driven instrumental pieces, and has since evolved into the vocally-driven embodiment active today. Green was a founding member of the now-retired, DC melodic hardcore group Fairweather, and while changing styles dramatically, some of the organic elements of their later work are vaguely present in these songs. Additionally, SEAS draws much aesthetic inspiration from John Fahey’s co-opting of Takoma Park, MD. This record nods artistically to Fahey, while its careful layering of instrumentation and imagery constructs an atmosphere more lush and warm.

Henri Bergson said, “The pure present is an ungraspable advance of the past devouring the future. In truth, all sensation is already memory.” Now My Home Is A Beech Tree, the debut record from SEAS, centers thematically on the unreliable landscape of memory, and the tenuous relationship between perceived history and actuality. The songs speak to hazy combinations of personal history, factual happenings, and surreal narratives, paying homage to the natural world with the reverence of gospel music, and reading much like elegies to physical landscapes and events that have ceased to exist.

SEAS is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on the album. In the meantime, SEAS recorded an alternate version of the album track “Valley of the Fevers” for you to check out below.

There are more demo tracks and recordings on the SEAS myspace page.

Stay tuned for more updates and welcome SEAS to the Decoration Day Recordings family!
